The following passage appears in only one manuscript witness — an 11th-century Korean copy held at the Kyujanggak Institute, Seoul (KK-1145, fol. 31r). It is absent from the Lu, Qi, and Gu lineages of the textual tradition, and from all printed editions since the Song. The redactions below reflect either deliberate damage to the manuscript or, in the editor’s view, deliberate non-transmission.
The reconstructed redaction in line 3 is, by metrical and rhetorical parallel with line 2, a noun governed by the verb 滿 (“to be full”). Three candidate readings have been proposed: 釜 (“cauldron”), 心 (“heart”), and 穴 (“hole/pit”). The third reading is the consensus reading of the present generation of scholars and is, in this editor’s view, the only reading that explains why the passage was redacted in the first place.
